How Do Bacteria Develop Antibiotic Resistance?
Antibiotic resistance is one of the major challenges in modern medicine. I was interested in understanding how bacteria adapt to antibiotic pressure and how changes in their genetic information might contribute to resistance.
During the Summer Science Program (SSP) at Chadron State College, I explored bacterial evolution using Vibrio natriegens as a model organism. Through laboratory experiments and genomic analysis, I investigated how bacterial populations respond to antibiotic selection and how researchers can examine the genetic changes associated with this process.
This experience gave me the opportunity to explore a biological question through both experimental work and computational analysis.
